Stepping Stones Montessori School was founded in 1983 by a small group of motivated parents. These parents funded and sourced equipment, and in some cases built furniture.  This commitment and enthusiasm for the Montessori philosophy & methodology, coupled with dedicated teachers, has ensured the growth of the school.

From the initial small beginning in St. John’s Hostel with two very small classes, growth necessitated a move to De Lorentz Street, Tamboerskloof, with approximately 50 children.

We have been in Oranjezicht since 1996 at our current premises in Sylvan Close. The school is now comprised of 2 toddler classes and 4 pre-school classes, with 113 children ranging from ages 2  to 6 years.

Stepping Stones Montessori Bursary Fund sponsors a child in each class.

Stepping Stones is a member of SAMA (South African Montessori Association) and strives towards best practice.
